It’s splashdown! NASA astronauts who were stranded departed from the International Space Station (ISS) on Tuesday morning. The astronauts made splashdown in the Gulf of America, landing off the coast of Florida at approximately 5:57 p.m. ET. The return of Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams marks the conclusion of their nine-month mission.

More Than a Rescue:
NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams returned to Earth on Tuesday in a SpaceX capsule after a soft splashdown off the Florida coast. This followed a complicated mission where their original Boeing Starliner craft faced technical issues during what was meant to be a week-long stay at the International Space Station. Wilmore and Williams were the first crew members to launch on the Starliner in June for an eight-day test mission. However, problems with the propulsion system caused delays, leading to their return on a SpaceX spacecraft instead. On Tuesday morning, they undocked from the ISS, starting a 17-hour trip home. The four-person crew, part of NASA’s Crew-9, safely splashed down at 5:57 p. m. ET. After health checks in Houston, they will spend time with their families.

In recent times, the United States has become too politically motivated to be able to operate. The government has been running several departments not only based on politics, but dangerously negligent. NASA has been operating with most launches and activity being subcontract out to private firms like Boeing and SpaceX. When, in July, Elon Musk offered to rescue the astronauts–and it was refused: it proves negligent behaviour on the part of the United States. In addition the NASA, some other United States departments being operated dangerously negligent includes the National Weather Service and the National Oceanic and Aeronautics Agency, based on late warnings, faulty operations of vital satellite and radar equipment, and also poorly navigated plotting on weather charts. We are in hope that the new Administration will take care of some of these negligent acts, before the result is way more damage, way more injuries, and way more deaths.
