There is a treat for everyone in the Americas, Europe and Africa and points close to these land masses are in for a photographic gem tonight: A global event called the total lunar eclipse. The Full Flower Moon event lasts the total time of 5 hours and 19 minutes, and the totality stage lasts 1 hour and 25 minutes. The start of this major event’s penumbral phase starts at 8:32 p.m. CDT, then the total phase starts at 10:29 p.m. CDT, and then finally the maximum phase of totality, or shadow is at 11:11 p.m. CDT. This is considered the “Prime Time” total lunar eclipse, and it is also a super moon and a blood moon. This is the second eclipse this year and the first lunar eclipse this year.

  1. Thanks for these gorgeous lunar photos! I missed seeing the one we just, but there was a an orange eclipse here about 6 six years ago or so. It was wild to go out at night, and watch, by increments, to see the moon turn that rusty, coppery color.
