Happy World Book & Copyright Day! ! !
📗 📘 📙 📕 📖 📓 📚 🔖 📔 📗 📘 📙 📕
A Brief History:
Origination: World Book and Copyright Day was created by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in order to focus on the promotion of reading, publishing and copyrighting. It is observed by millions of people in over 100 countries, through and out of hundreds of voluntary organizations, schools, public bodies, professional groups, and also private businesses. Cumulatively, the day is supported with a considerable number of people from every continent with all cultural backgrounds, to the great cause of books and copyright.
Reading, Writing & Promoting: Authors put their hearts and souls into writing that next book! It is not an easy task. I am in the process of writing a book, and it is not at all like reading a book. Writing is the first of a great myriad of processes that need to be done. First writing a manuscript, then editing, then proofreading. . .before a book is even in the wings. Then the writer has to obtain a publisher, who can and sometimes obtains printing–but not always. The total package of publishing takes a lot of promotion, advertising, sometimes giveaways, and all sorts of real work.
Copyright of Books : Copyright has protected freedom to promote reading and writing in order to fight illiteracy and poverty, and to strengthen the foundations of peace and integrity, as well as protecting the publishing-related professions. The good old days of copyrighting a published works involved many different methods, of which varied to getting legal counsel to even just mailing a copy of the manuscript to the author’s self, unopened for the purpose of enrolling into copy-written material. These days, several new methods have transpired over time. My advice is always know the law. Have a lawyer on retainer.
General Copyright: Copyright is a process whereby an published item is protected from plagiarism, or use by others in a respect not authorized by the author, or the use of an author’s works for the purpose of profiting off of the published material that is not owned by a third party to use for that purpose. In the United States, the copyright law is secured through laws governed through the Legislative Branch and has jurisdiction through the Judicial Branch. When incidents happen, it starts with acknowledgment that a unprecedented case of plagiarism has happened. The majority of the time, settlement occurs and both sides can reason with the incidence of plagiarism, including taking down the unauthorized content, monetary loss and possibly more on a case by case situation. At the Versatileer website and all websites in general, we publish as soon as we hit the publish button. It is quite obvious, and WordPress.com backs all it’s clients up that we are in business to publish, and when we publish, a copyright symbol on each page, as much as is humanly possible backs up the copyright laws. If someone plagiarizes, they are subject to litigation and fees for unauthorized use of the owned materials. The Versatileer website always has authentic material, or uses licensed materials, and gives proper credit where credit is due–even to governmental services, and always respects authors of materials that are copy-written. We appreciate the respect of others for honoring our rights.
Celebrated: Since the year 1995, on April 23rd every year!
Social Media Directly Related to Books: Please visit the Goodreads social media site for information related to anything having to do with books. You can join, and I highly recommend because both online and through the app, you are able to follow just about any book and/or author in the world. It also offers social value, as and your are able to become friends with people online that have similar interests.
The OnlineBookClub.org is a website that I highly recommend, and have followed for years. It is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to assisting readers with alternative reading and high-line books. They offer: a book-of-the-day contest that is ongoing, a book of the month competition and several other participation events. They also offer free books through Amazon frequently (not every day) by offering the daily “book of the day” book when required for entry into the contest at 100% discount. You also get to keep the Kindle copy of the book permanently. The OnlineBookClub.org also has some social media value, by being able to interact and post reviews on the website.
