A Brief History:
Legend: Christopher “Cristoforo Colombo” Columbus, the “Admiral of the Ocean Sea” was on a series of four missions to establish a better, faster trade route for shipping looking for the Indian inlet, and unknowingly found a whole larger world–almost double the size.

Evolution:  When Castilian monarchs Queen Isabella I and King Ferdinand II agreed to sponsor a journey west, Columbus prepared and left Castile, Spain in August of 1492 with three ships–the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria. He made landfall in the Americas on the 12th of October. Columbus made three further voyages to the Americas, first at the Lesser Antilles in 1493, then at Trinidad and the northern coast of South America in 1498, and finally at the eastern coast of Central America in 1502. He also gave the name indios or “Indians”, to the indigenous peoples he had encountered during his entourage of journeys.

Holiday Origination: The first recorded celebration of Columbus Day in the United States was on October 12, 1792, then marking the tricentennial anniversary of Columbus’ landing. It was organized by the Colombian Order) Society of St. Tammany. The first American Columbus Day was proclaimed in 1892 by President Benjamin Harrison in order to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Italian-born explorer’s supposed discovery of America.

More Recently: More recent activity included a holiday to just relax and enjoy, as the holiday included a Federal holiday, resulting in all Federal, state, county-wide municipalities, and also a lot of local business closures.

Getting Ready For Fall Activities: The holiday unofficially marks an original time for getting the fall and winter decorations up before the onset of really cool and blustery weather. Right in the heart of the football season, it searches for a great admiration of fall, autumn style weather usually by this date.

A Few Facts:
I am sharing a few facts, and more, some trivia, some not trivial. . .

  • Columbus did not prove the Earth was round.
  • Columbus had a crew of 90 people.
  • Some states choose not to celebrate Columbus Day.
  • More. . .

The Present:
In most recent times there have been groups and individuals participating in the process called “history erasure”, in an attempt that somehow erasing the history, whether it was a good one or a bad one, will compensate the implementation of better celebration by “changing” the very important history…

The Future:
We all strive to keep the heritage of America! Heritage is always important to keep index of actuality. Erasing history is counter-productive to the successful implementation of human nature, and such behavior has always failed in previous attempts to do such, throughout the ages, before and after Christ. The past and the present are very important to keep in mind so that you can properly mold a great future. It’s not opinion that removing statues doesn’t improve modern living. Happy Columbus Day today, next year, and into the future!
