A Brief History:
Origination: The celebration of Mickey Mouse’s birthday marks the introduction of an endearing character that originated as a rabbit named Oswald. This iconic figure made his film debut on November 18, 1928; however, the narrative traces back to 1927, when Walt Disney initially illustrated a floppy-eared bunny while working under contract with Universal Studios with his inaugural silent animated short, Plane Crazy, featuring his newly developed anthropomorphic character, Mickey Mouse. The studio did not respond favorably to the cartoon, leading to its shelving. However, six months later, Mickey Mouse made his official public debut in the black-and-white short film Steamboat Willie. The subsequent developments ultimately led to the creation of Mickey Mouse.

More Mickey Mouse: The television series and video games featuring Mickey Mouse have gained significant attention. Additionally, there have been notable illustrators who have contributed to the character’s development. It is worth noting that Mickey Mouse is recognized for his unique voice, which was created by Bret Iwan, the original performer. The performance was done by Jimmy MacDonald tin the year 1946. Wayne Allwine finally started voicing Mickey beginning in 1983, and until his death in 2009. The now voice has reverted to the original Bret.

Even More Celebration Throughout the Years: In the final installments of his original series, Mickey Mouse exhibits a more angular and stylized appearance, complete with eyebrows. His design simplifies, resulting in a more geometric shape for his head and ears. Upon his reintroduction to theatrical animation, Mickey’s eyebrows are eliminated, and his artistic representation reverts to a style reminiscent of the 1940s. Notably, the original iteration of Mickey Mouse, which debuted in the iconic 1928 animated short Steamboat Willie, will enter the public domain following the expiration of the film’s copyright in 2024.
