Today’s Featured Flower Photo of the Day:
The Peking Lilac

Here is today’s featured photo flower presentation. To let 2024 shine bright, I am featuring fine photos of flowers, continuing to honor the brighter side of life again this year. Today’s Flower of the day is the Peking Lilac.

The Peking Lilac, or the Syringa Pekinensis is a is a slow-growing deciduous tree or large shrub that originated from Asia. The Peking Lilac can reach heights of up to 20 feet and widths of 15 feet. It features smaller leaves, stems, and flowers compared to the Japanese Tree Lilac, and is known for being more heat-tolerant but less cold hardy. This tree boasts amber-colored bark that peels off, along with large, creamy-white flower clusters that emit a delightful honey scent in the early summer months. Thriving in full sun and well-drained, moist soil, the Peking Lilac can flourish in USDA hardiness zones 3 through 7. Ideal for urban settings like parking lots, boulevards, and parkways, the Peking Lilac can also serve as a striking focal point in landscapes, whether planted along streets, in lawns, near decks/patios, or around foundations. Shrub varieties work well in borders, small groups, or as a privacy screen along property boundaries. While the Peking Lilac shows resistance to common Lilac pests like powdery mildew, scale, and borers, it remains vulnerable to diseases such as blights, leaf spots, wilt, and ring spot virus. Additionally, flower buds may suffer frost damage during early spring
