“Great American Eclipse” Day, 04/08/24 – Photos, Videos & Satellite Imagery
This is it! Today is the day!
The “Great American Eclipse” will be a total eclipse to go beyond the expectancy of many eclipses. Versatileer regrets that I will not be bringing it #Live but will bring footage as soon as possible straight from viewing in Indianapolis, Indiana!
To be a well deserved great total eclipse because of its timing in conjunction with a series of Super New Moons, a point where the New Moon will be where it is visibly closer to the Earth. Because of this, the path of the total eclipse area will be not only wider than normal, the time the area of eclipse of the Sun will also be much longer than normal. Additional variances exist, such as the duration of totality (2 minutes 40 seconds in 2017 and 4 minutes 28 seconds in 2024) and the width of the path of totality (approximately 70 miles in 2017 and about 115 miles in 2024). The maximum area of duration is at the point near Torreón, Mexico where the complete duration is 4 minutes and 28 seconds long. This eclipse will be the second visible eclipse within a year (the October 2023 eclipse had no area that was in the total eclipse phase, due to the Sun being too far from Earth, and not covering the whole Sun span). The eclipse starts in the south Pacific Ocean meandering into the north Pacific into This total eclipse will also be the first total eclipse visible in the United States since August 21, 2017. and the partial phase will be visible everywhere in the United States including Hawaii, excluding only the state of Alaska. The fifteen states where totality will be visible somewhere in these states (in order of movement) are:
- Texas
- Oklahoma
- Arkansas
- Missouri
- Tennessee
- Kentucky
- Illinois
- Indiana
- Ohio
- Michigan
- Pennsylvania
- New York
- Vermont
- New Hampshire
- Maine
The two areas of overlap from previous eclipses in the past decade are in Illinois and Texas:
- The convergence of the 2017 and 2024 paths results in the formation of an “Eclipse Crossroads” region spanning approximately 9,000 square miles across certain areas of southeastern Missouri, southern Illinois, and western Kentucky. This particular area will witness a second totality in less than seven years.
- A region in Texas close to San Antonio will witness both the annular eclipse in 2023 and the total eclipse in 2024 as the two paths intersect.
The eclipse also will affect the following six Canadian provinces/territories:
- Ontario
- Québec
- New Brunswick
- Prince Edward Island
- Nova Scotia
- Newfoundland
The 2024 solar eclipse will cause a temporary darkening of the sky for millions of Americans in the path of totality as it trks east, northeastward at more than 1,500 miles per hour. This event marks the first solar eclipse to traverse North America in a span of seven years, and the contiguous U.S. will have to wait until August 23, 2044, for the next one, as confirmed by NASA.
- Some Safety and Miscellaneous offers today:
- Approved an rated glasses are needed for safety, but they sure are confusing. Use the right rating. There are 2 ratings:
- Approved for your eyes.
- Approved for lenses, camera equipment and cell phone cameras. NEVER use those filters to view the partial eclipse with your eyes! Never photograph without the filtering equipment!
- A total solar eclipse in April will cross 13 US states: Which ones are on the path?
The one thing you’ll want not to do is to try to look at the eclipse while driving during solar eclipse. - Burger King, Pizza Hut, Applebee’s and Sonic serving up eclipse deals and specials.,
No, welding glasses! - Eclipses don’t happen every month due to the tilt of the orbit of the Moon’s path in comparison with the juxtaposition of the Earth.
- The area of the total solar eclipse will cross 13 US states: Which ones near you are on the path?
- Dallas and San Antonio, Texas
- Idabel, Oklahoma
- Poplar Bluff, Missouri
- Little Rock, Arkansas
- Paducah, Kentucky
- Indianapolis and Evansville, Indiana
- Carbondale, Illinois
- Cleveland and Toledo, Ohio
- Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse, New York
- Burlington, Vermont
- Lancaster, New Hampshire
- Caribou, Maine
- Erie, Pennsylvania…
See you with footage of the eclipse as soon as possible! How lovely it is going to be, weather permitting.

An Eclipse Never Comes Alone!
A solar eclipse always occurs about two weeks before or after a lunar eclipse.
See you: The September-October eclipse season, there will be a minor partial lunar eclipse occurring on September 17-18, 2024, followed by an annular solar eclipse on October 2, 2024.
