The History:
Origination: The origins of clam chowder is believe to be first developed by French settlers who came to northeastern region of  the U.S. in the 17^th century, who were looking for a way to use up an abundant amount of clams that were from local waters. They found a tasty way to use them up by making soups and stews with the clams.

More Recent History: The first recipe for the recipe of Manhattan Clam Chowder was published in a cookbook in 1934, Soups and Sauces by Virginia Elliott and Robert Jones. There are several different histories for clam chowder, and very delicious backgrounds.

Clam Chowder is. . .  Clam Chowder consists of a mix of clams, potatoes, salt pork, and onions. Cream or tomatoes may be added for different variations.

Celebrated: Every February 25^th each year!
