A Brief History:
Origination: Labor Day was created to be a public holiday in the United States honoring the American labor movement and to celebrate the contributions that workers have made to the American society.

When: Labor Day is an American holiday now observed on the first Monday of September. It was create on 1882, and it became an official federal holiday in 1894 during the President Grover Cleveland administration in response to a then crisis over federal efforts to end a strike created by railroad workers in and around the New York metro area.

Evolution: The holiday is special at honoring the many working Americans who live in the United States to celebrate their livelihoods. Many observe the Labor Day holiday by attending parades, simply relaxing, and holding family gatherings, barbecues, last minute hot dogs, and last minute visits to the beach or going in the pool one last time.

Other Trivia: After Labor Day, the act of not wearing Blue Jeans (old tradition). Stemming from the Victorian era, some still will not wear the color white for a shirt, blouse or top. White shoes are typically still not in style for an elite evening out after Labor Day. These traditions are not typical, but still out there.

End of Summer: The holiday unofficially marks the ending date of the summer season, which goes also unofficially opened on the Memorial Day holiday.

A Few Facts:
I am sharing a few facts, and more, some trivia, some not trivial. . .

  • On May 4, 1886, the Haymarket Affair happened, whereby an initial bombing at a union rally in Chicago’s Haymarket Square led to violence and eleven deaths. The affair led to the creation of Workers Day on May 1, because the U.S. government already had chose Labor Day to be the first Monday in September for the originally chosen holiday.
  • The 1882 parade made the holiday revered and respected by inception by two separate individuals in rivaling unions: Matthew Maguire, a machinist, and Peter McGuire, a carpenter.
  • The barbecue is a staple for all summer events, including Labor Day.
  • More. . .

The Present:
Have you reached your daily, monthly, medium-term and long-term goals? A plan, work and prayer is all that is necessary…

The Future:
We will NEVER, ever forget those from the past, in the present, and into the future. . .Who built our cities, country and lives, to live in this free land, and the flag it stands for!
