Today’s Featured Flower Photo of the Day: Wild Blue Phlox

Here is today’s featured photo flower presentation. To let this year shine bright, I am featuring fine photos of flowers, continuing to honor the brighter side of life again this year. Today’s Flower of the day is the Wild Blue Phlox.

The (Creeping) Wild Blue Phlox (“Wild Sweet William”), or the P. maculata is a five-petalled tubular flower that is attractive to butterflies, clearwing moths, and hummingbirds that blooms in mid to late May in our area of Illinois. This beautiful species is most common in midwestern woods and fields from Pennsylvania and Ohio south to northern Georgia, west to the drier lines in the eastern parts of the United States. The Wild Blue Phlox is a Herbaceous, and a perennial that is a loose cluster of slightly fragrant, light blue to a shade of violet flower tops and a somewhat sticky stem that produces leafy, creeping shoots at the base. The Wild Blue Phlox grows in mini-groves of plants amounting to the size of 9-12 in. tall, 9-12 in. wide. The Wild Blue Phlox grow best in the partial shade with a moist sand well-drained soil type.20220507_110705.jpg

  1. As usual, lovely photos. I used to visit my aunt & uncle in DC every Easter vacation, they always a ton of phlox in the backyard. I loved it!
