A Brief History:
Origination: National Nonprofit Day is aimed at acknowledging the vital contributions of nonprofit organizations and motivating individuals to support them through donations, volunteering, or other forms of assistance. This day was established by author and speaker Sherita J. Herring in 2017 to honor the dedication of those working in the nonprofit sector and to recognize the Tariff Act of 1894, which provided tax exemptions to nonprofit and charitable organizations, thus establishing the foundation for the contemporary nonprofit sector.

Signs of fake charities include high-pressure tactics, requests for unusual payment methods like gift cards, vague emotional appeals without specifics, fake contact information, and lack of transparency about their mission or finances. Be cautious of unsolicited messages asking for donations, and always check URLs to ensure legitimacy.
