Below are 10 things an aspiring writer should know.
- Suggest you try to write every day.
- Save what you have written, even if you are not pleased with it. With some editing, your thoughts could be valuable to the storyline. Some days, you will find you are more focused than others.
- Keep a notebook so you can quickly put your ideas on paper. It may surprise you how many “inspirational moments” you have per day.
- Grammar checkers, like ProWritingAid and Grammarly, are great tools to ensure your text is grammatically correct. The “rephrase” function in ProWritingAid is incredibly helpful for discovering new ways to phrase your sentences. We currently use ProWritingAid, Grammarly likely has the same functionality.
- Don’t rely solely on grammar checkers. Sometimes what the checker recommends may not make sense or its phrasing seems sterile. I found this problem frequently when creating dialog between characters in the story.
- If you’re committed to publishing a book, it’s essential to hire an editor, even if it’s expensive. Not only can they assist with improving your manuscript, but some can also assist with the publishing process itself.
- Join local (and now Zoom) writing groups and find beta readers. They can help ensure your storyline flows well and can also assist with grammar and sentence structure. They can also help promote your book after its publication.
- If you’re using Word, use the “read out loud” function. When someone reads the story to you, it’s amazing how many words you can catch that you might miss when you read it through yourself.
- There are many pros and cons to self-publishing. Research all options before you decide which is best for you. There are literally hundreds of videos on YouTube about self-publishing.
- Plan to spend a lot of time and money if you decide to publish a book! One final thought. Understand before you even start your book what are your goals. Is it to make money or just to fulfill a goal in life? Realize it’s possible to have a wonderful book, but it may not receive any attention or sell. Sometimes it’s a matter of luck.

Synopsis:
Discover love and music in the sultry streets of Miami with “A Seasonal Song.”
Clarissa Bianchi, a talented violinist, lands her dream internship with the Miami Orchestra, but little does she know that she will also discover the love of her life. Jack Williams, a rugged rock guitarist with a broken heart, meets Clarissa and is instantly drawn to her beauty and passion for music. Despite their different musical backgrounds, their mutual love for music brings them together on a journey filled with passion, growth, and unforgettable memories.
As the summer draws to a close, Clarissa and Jack must navigate their intense feelings for each other and determine if their love is strong enough to withstand the distance between Miami and Boston. Will their hearts play a different song, or will the romance come to an end?
“A Seasonal Song” is a love story that will leave you humming a sweet tune long after you turn the last page.
