Happy Juneteenth!

It is Juneteenth, the 19th day of June–which is a holiday that celebrates the emancipation of the enslaved people in the United States. Slavery is a terrible blood-stained part of this country’s history. President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, which declared as of the date January 1, 1863, all enslaved people in the United States, and without exception, “shall be thenceforward, and forever free.” Remember, we are all children of God!

  1. I loved your Reminder that today marked the date in 1863 that Abraham Lincoln wrote the Emancipation Proclamation which was put into law in 1865. I liked that It is also called Freedom Day or Emancipation Day. It has now been put into law that All States are required to keep June 19th a Federal Holiday by Pres. Joe Biden.
