Bless, and Happy Mother’s Day!!
A Brief History:
Origination: Mother’s Day is a holiday in honor of mothers worldwide. Mother’s Day is celebrated on Sunday, May 9, 2021.
Evolution: Its modern form of the holiday originated in the United States on the second Sunday in May.
British Version: The holiday had became “Mothering Sunday” in Britain originally, where it continues into modern times simply replaced by the common term Mother’s Day.
Other Countries: Many other countries also celebrate Mother’s Day on the same date, while others observe other times of the year.
Ancient Observation: During the Middle Ages, customs developed allowing those who had moved away to visit their home parishes with their mothers on “Laetare Sunday”, the fourth Sunday of Lent.
A Few Facts:
I am sharing a few facts, and more, some trivia, some not trivial. . .
- Anna Jarvis of Philadelphia, whose mother had organized women’s groups to promote friendship and health, originated Mother’s Day. On May 12, 1907, she held a memorial service at her late mother’s church in Grafton, West Virginia. She promoted wearing a white carnation as tribute to one’s mother, and then developed a tradition of wearing a red or pink carnation to represent a living mother or a white carnation for a mother who was deceased.
- Within five years of the origination of Ms. Jarvis, l virtually every state was observing the day, and in 1914,l President Woodrow Wilson made it a national holiday.
- Over time the day was expanded to include others, such as grandmothers and aunts, whose roles portrayed mothering customs.
- What had originally been a primarily a day of honor evolved into the sending of cards and the giving of gifts. So in protest against its ultimate commercialization, Jarvis spent the last years of her life trying to abolish the holiday she had brought into existence.

1 Corinthians 13:
The Way of Love
13:1 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 13:2 And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 13:3 If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.
13:4 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant 13:5 or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; 13:6 it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. 13:7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
13:8 Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. 13:9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 13:10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away. 13:11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. 13:12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.
13:13 So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
