A Brief History:
Origination: Certified nurses put dedication in their entire careers in order to helping others with major effort and oftentimes working long, hard hours. The normal nurse’s day requires a lot of care, split second decision making to assist in needs and downright passion to provide for. This fine day honors and recognizes all that effort and significant achievements. Their advanced placement and skills require continued education, re-certification, and continued knowledge of a vast and ever-changing technology. Certified nurses are the balance for clinical needs and patient care, helping patients meet their vast array of healthcare goals in a complex and challenging time.
Major Certification Categories For Nurses: Nursing careers are varied and specialize in a lot of fields, so the nurse can earn certifications in specialties and also many sub-specialties. Certified nurses study and take board certification courses and exams to demonstrate competency, skill, and knowledge in a variety of different fields:
- Ambulatory Care Certification
- Clinical Nurse Specialist Certification
- Informatics Certification
- Medical-Surgical Certification
- Nurse Practitioner Specialty Certification
- Pediatric Nursing Certification
- Psychiatric Nursing Certification
Celebrated: Nationally we celebrate National Certified Nurses Day on March 19th every year in order to celebrate the certification process and the nurses who impact our lives every day. The day was established to honor Margretta (Gretta) Madden Styles, MSN, Ph.D (March 19, 1930 to November 20, 2005) for her pioneering and distinguished career of inspiring nurses around the country. Her tradition and passion were recognized worldwide towards her leadership and also for her contributions to nursing. We will celebrate National Nurses Day coming up soon on May 6th and International Nurses Day May 12th. Celebration of “National Nurses Week” happens both here in the United States and in Canada between May 6th to 12th.
