My prayers go out to all areas involved in Monday’s disaster tornado touchdown on Monday, March 21^st in Elgin, TX. Remember: Tornadoes happen any time that there are three air masses involved and a comma insignia on the tropical side. This is why tornadoes are highly poplar on landfall of a hurricane–because the land mass is so dry it emulates a continental air mass in the tropics! This particular tornado in Elgin had all three components–the tropical air mass with a comma insignia thunderstorm supercell winding storms rapidly to the south, a cool maritime air mass to the northeast, and a colder continental air mass to the northwest–moving the cold front eastward bound. One these conditions are attained, tornado breeding grounds are possible if not imminent.
