A Brief History on Breadstick:
Origin, and A Lot of Breadstick: Breadsticks, or “grissini,” started in 17th century Turin, Italy, created by baker Antonio Brunero for King Vittorio Amedeo II, who had trouble digesting regular bread. Brunero made the bread thin and crunchy by adapting a local bread called ghersa. After the king’s health improved, these breadsticks became popular among the nobility and the general public. Their fame spread to other European courts, with King Louis XIV requesting bakers to Paris and Napoleon calling them “les petits bâtons de Turin. ” Today, breadsticks are enjoyed worldwide, often served in restaurants and homes with various sauces and soups.
