Dogs:
Origination: Dogs have evolved from the wolf species, in the same family–the Canine, a species that has existed for more than 5000 years ago. The domestication of dogs was a complex process involving genetic divergence from wolves, domestication, and the emergence of the first dogs. Genetic studies show that all ancient and modern dogs share a common ancestry with an ancient wolf population. The dog’s similarity to the grey wolf is due to gene flow, with the modern grey wolf being its closest relative. The domestication of dogs began long ago, making it a key transition in human history. The domestication process was driven by the fight-or-flight response, with dogs showing less aggression and more altruism towards humans. The exact location of dog domestication remains debated, but evidence suggests it likely occurred in Eurasia. Ancient dog remains have been found in various regions, indicating a widespread domestication process.
