The History:
Caesar Salads: A Caesar salad is a green salad made with romaine lettuce, croutons, Parmesan cheese, and Caesar dressing. The dressing includes olive oil, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, garlic, and possibly anchovies. Key components are romaine lettuce, croutons, and Parmesan cheese. Variations may include different lettuces or added ingredients like grilled chicken. Traditionally, it was prepared tableside.

Origination: The Caesar salad was created by Italian immigrant Caesar Cardini in Tijuana, Mexico, on July 4, 1924, during a busy holiday when ingredients were running low. Using available ingredients like romaine lettuce, olive oil, garlic, Parmesan cheese, Worcestershire sauce, and coddled eggs, he improvised the dish. Initially, the recipe did not include anchovies, which were added later. The salad became popular with Hollywood stars. Cardini’s daughter, Rosa, later bottled the Caesar dressing. The original restaurant closed in 2009, but the name and salad remain popular.

More Than Salad: Caesar salad is a classic dish that typically has around 400-600 calories per serving. It contains 30-40 grams of fat mainly from the dressing, 10-20 grams of carbohydrates from croutons, and 10-20 grams of protein from chicken or other sources. The salad is high in sodium, providing over 1000 milligrams, and is a good source of vitamin K, with moderate calcium and trace iron. Nutritional content can change based on added ingredients like chicken, bacon, or cheese, and using low-fat dressing can lower fat and calories.

Celebrated: National Caesar Salad is celebrated on July 4th each year!

A Few Facts:
I am sharing a few facts, and more, some trivia, some not trivial. . .

Caesar Salad Galore:
Plenty for Everyone: Caesar salad is a popular and tasty dish made with crisp romaine lettuce, creamy dressing, and crunchy croutons. It is well-loved for several reasons. The flavor balance comes from the salty taste of anchovies and Parmesan, the acidity of lemon juice, and the richness of olive oil and egg yolks. The texture combines crisp lettuce with creamy dressing and crunchy croutons. Additionally, the umami flavor from anchovies and Parmesan enhances its appeal. Caesar salad is versatile and can be served as a side dish or a main meal with added proteins.
