The Beginning Years: It is believed that the initial European settlement stretches back over 5,000 years ago, showing a rich mix of human activity and diverse cultures. The first people were Paleo-Indians who hunted large animals, and later, distinct cultural areas developed during the Archaic period. Indigenous groups such as the Shoshone, Nez Perce, and Coeur d’Alene significantly impacted Idaho’s early history. Evidence suggests humans were in Idaho with cultures developing specialized skills for survival. Early inhabitants made unique hunting tools, and distinct culture areas emerged over time. Various tribes lived in Idaho, including the Nez Perce, who helped Lewis and Clark in 1805. European contact in the 18^th century brought horses but also harmful diseases like smallpox.

More History: The state of Idaho features history including early settlement by Native American tribes, the arrival of pioneers and gold rushers, and its eventual admission as a state. The Idaho Territory was established in 1863, and on July 3, 1890, Idaho became the 43rd state.Native American tribes, such as the Nez Perce, Coeur d’Alene, and Shoshone, lived in Idaho for thousands of years. In the mid-19^th century, pioneers and gold rushers increased the population and economy. The territory initially had its capital in Lewiston, which was later moved to Boise. Political struggles marked its journey to statehood, but it is now known as the “Gem State,” with Boise as its largest city.

More About Idaho: Throughout the years, Idaho has earned the titles of being widely known as the “Potato State,” producing a large portion of the U. S. potato crop. The state is also famous for outdoor recreation, stunning mountain landscapes, unique gems, and special foods like huckleberries and finger steaks. Idaho’s highlights include potatoes, which is a major agricultural product. Also for its outdoor recreation with activities such as hiking, skiing, whitewater rafting, camping, and natural hot springs. Idaho is greatly known for its scenic beauty, with some rugged wilderness, rivers, and many lakes. Gems are highly prevalent with many various precious stones. Idaho’s culinary specialties include unique foods like huckleberries and the “ice cream potato.” Some other features include the Craters of the Moon National Monument which is a volcanic landscape.

The Great Location of Idaho: The state of Idaho spans 479 miles in length north to south and 305 miles east to west in the south section, ranging to 50 miles wide in the north section. It is bordered by British Columbia, Canada to the north, Montana to the northeast, Wyoming to the east, Utah and Nevada to the south, plus Oregon and Washington to the west.
