A Brief History:
Tomorrow: Tomorrow marks the largest single-day food drive in the United States, known as Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive Day. This remarkable event takes place in over 10,000 cities and towns, with food being gathered by the postal workers who deliver our mail nationwide.

Origination: The Stamp out Hunger Food Drive started in October 1991 as a pilot program. After the initial success of the drive that took place in ten cities across the country, the program was moved to the spring. Food banks during this time of year struggle to meet demand as contributions dwindle after the holiday season.  

The Postal Workers: While postal workers provide you with mail order items, invoices, checks and postcards, you can contribute by placing non-perishable food donations into their mailbag.

Stamp Out Hunger Food Drives’ Success : WIn the past two decades, this initiative, supported by the National Association of Letter Carriers, has successfully delivered one billion pounds of food. The letter carriers affiliated with the NALC are assisted by rural letter carriers, additional postal staff, and various volunteers. The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive has garnered several honors throughout the years, including two Presidential Certificates of Achievement.

Celebrated: Celebrated on second Saturday in May every year, which this year is May 10^th!

What Do I Do?
Most urban and suburban areas nationwide are participating in theis nationwide event. Check with your local Post Office. Please set aside non-perishable food items for your postal carrier to collect and distribute to food pantries as part of the initiative. You may also drop off items at your nearest post office. What an important cause!
