A prayer:

Dear God,
Almighty Heavenly Father, we ask for Your blessings as we come together to honor all Silver Star Service Banner Veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation’s freedom and to serve America. We express our gratitude for the privilege granted to each Veteran, allowing them to contribute to the values this country represents: personal freedom. In the name of Jesus.
Amen

STARSPANGLED BANNER

Oh, say can you see by the dawn’s early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave!

National Vietnam War Veterans Day ! !

…A lot of times we lose our disposition in regular daily matters, but this country and the flag it stands behind, is still the most free land in the world. It is a nice day to celebrate the freedom we enjoy everyday with a tributary to that served. Where else in the world do we have that freedom to express our own opinions, and get away with having those thoughts, but in the U.S.A.–and that freedom is only possible through our amazing Veterans. Do not take this for granted and take your hats off today for the Silver Star Service Banner Veterans!!!

A Brief History:
Thank You: A special day to observe the Silver Star Service Banner Veteran to honor the sacrifices made by American service members for our nation. This day serves as a reminder for Americans to reflect on the service members who have been injured in combat, are suffering from illness, and those who are nearing the end of their lives.

Origination: The Silver Star Medal is regarded as one of the most prestigious awards a service member can attain within all branches of the U.S. military. On this National Day, we take the opportunity to emphasize the significance of recognizing our military heroes and their families nationwide.

Traditions: The Silver Star Flag and Banner represents a symbol of honor for individuals who have sustained injuries or illnesses in combat. Frequently, this flag or banner is displayed in the windows of the immediate family members of military personnel during times of war. By displaying this esteemed flag, families communicate that they have a loved one actively serving in the military.

The Medal’s Meaning: The Silver Star Medal, as stated by the U.S. Department of Defense, ranks as the third highest honor that a member of the Armed Forces can earn for acts of bravery in combat. The U.S. Army typically refers to this prestigious award simply as the ‘Silver Star,’ whereas the Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Coast Guard designate it as the ‘Silver Star Medal.’ This commendation is conferred by all military branches for actions taken against an enemy of the United States during a brief period of conflict, usually lasting one or two days.

Observed: In 2017, U.S. Congress, Senators Pat Toomey, R-Pa., and Joe Donnelly, D-Ind., introduced legislation that designated March 29th of every year as Silver Star Service Banner Day. The day was chosen because of the anniversary of the withdrawal of military units from South Vietnam. President Donald J. Trump signed the Silver Star Service Banner Day Act on March 28, 2017, calling for U.S. flags to be flown on March 29 for all of those who served.

A Few Facts:
I am sharing a few facts, and more, some trivia, some not trivial. . .

The Medal:
The actions deserving of the Silver Star must demonstrate an exceptional level of valor that surpasses the criteria for all other U.S. combat awards, yet do not qualify for the Medal of Honor or a Service Cross (which includes the Distinguished Service Cross, the Navy Cross, or the Air Force Cross). The Silver Star Medal is designed as a five-pointed gold star, measuring 1.5 inches in diameter, with a laurel wreath encircling rays of sunlight at its center. Within this laurel wreath, a smaller silver star is positioned, while the reverse side of the medal is inscribed with the phrase ‘For Gallantry in Action.’ The medal is suspended from a ribbon that is white and blue, measuring 5.6 mm in width.

The Present:
Have you reached out to a soldier? A visit, a call, or a prayer is all that is necessary…

The Future:
We will NEVER, ever forget those who served in the name of the freedom for which the flag and the Statue of Liberty stands for!
