Origination: National Peanut Cluster Day celebrates the combination of melted chocolate and peanuts creates an exquisite blend of sweet and salty flavors that is truly delightful. The flavor goes back to  the late 19^th and early 20^th centuries. This period marked significant advancements in the processing of cocoa beans into chocolate, alongside improved agricultural practices that made peanuts more accessible. The appealing blend of sweet and salty flavors contributed to the development of peanut clusters, which emerged as a straightforward and enjoyable snack option.

United States Evolution: The “Goo Goo Cluster,” recognized as the first combination candy bar in the United States, was created in 1912 by Howell Campbell and the Standard Candy Company, located in Nashville, Tennessee. This confectionery masterpiece consists of caramel, marshmallow nougat, and roasted peanuts, all enrobed in milk chocolate.

Mid to Later 20^th Century: In the 20th century, peanut clusters, made of peanuts and chocolate, became a popular candy and snack. During the 1920s and 30s, many iconic peanut-based candies like Baby Ruth, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, and Snickers emerged as peanuts gained popularity.

More Recently: In 1963 brought the Reese’s treat we know, not quite a cluster, but the next creamy option. Then in 1978 we got the treat of Reese’s Pieces and also the experience of the Whatchamacallit bar. Most recently, the Take 5 was unleashed in 2004. A little quiet on the cluster part, but the peanut cluster is already tasty as is.

Celebrated: National Peanut Cluster Day is celebrated on March 8^th every year!
