Facts:
Origin: Dresses have been a staple of fashion for centuries. Dresses have a long and varied history, evolving from simple garments to symbols of style and status across cultures. They date back to ancient times, with evidence from places like Egypt. One of the oldest examples of a dress is the Tarkhan Dress, a linen garment from 5.000 year ago or more. Throughout history, dress styles have ranged from simple gowns to complex designs supported by foundation garments. Dresses can be worn for both formal and casual events, and styles vary to suit different occasions. Interestingly, dresses were not always seen as female clothing, with men also wearing them in many cultures. The Victorian era introduced a significant movement aiming to make women’s clothing more comfortable and practical. In contemporary times, they are available in an array of styles and silhouettes. Ranging from long and mini to fit-and-flare, ball gowns, and A-line designs, there are numerous ways to express one’s individuality. Over the years, the evolution of dress designs has been remarkable.

More History: The little black dress became famous in the 1920s thanks to Coco Chanel, while the mini skirt was brought into fashion by Dame Mary Quant in the 1960s. Dress designs have adapted to reflect cultural and social changes, with masculine styles becoming popular in the 1920s and hemlines rising in the 1960s. Nevertheless, they continue to offer a unique appearance and tailored fit, enhancing elegance and self-assurance at any occasion.
Significance: On significant occasions, we strive to find the ideal dress tailored for the event. Be it prom, a job interview, a first date, or a momentous wedding day, National Dress Day provides us with an opportunity to revisit some of our most cherished memories.
How Expensive Can it Get?: Notable figures like Cleopatra wore lavish dresses, while Queen Victoria shocked society with her white wedding dress in 1840. The most expensive wedding gown ever was worn by Princess Salama, costing $44 million. In 2015, a viral online phenomenon arose from a photo of a dress that sparked debate on its colors, being seen as blue and black or white and gold by different viewers.
