A Brief History:
Origination: National Read Across America Day is observed to coinciding with the birthday of Dr. Seuss. This event is a component of Read Across America, a reading initiative established by the National Education Association. Aimed at promoting reading among children, the celebration is primarily supported through educational institutions.

The Importance of Reading & Writing to Children: This motivational and awareness day invites all children and youth in the United States to celebrate reading. It encourages them to read wherever they are. Effective ways to inspire reading in children include: Keeping books in places where you spend time, such as the car and various rooms of the house, making them easily accessible. Visiting the library regularly, which helps children learn how to use it and appreciate the services it offers. Getting caught reading yourself, as children mimic what adults do, showing them that reading is enjoyable. Reading aloud to your children to enhance their vocabulary and language skills while opening discussions. Encouraging your children to read to you, which can lead to interesting discoveries.

Ways to Participate: Become a member of your local library. Participate in a book reading event. Engage with a book you have intended to read for some time. Revisit a book you have previously read; you might find that it resonates with you in a new way since your last encounter. Consider reading aloud, even if only to yourself, as it serves as excellent preparation for reading to children.

Celebrated: National Read Across America Day is celebrated on March 2^nd!, except when on a weekend, so this year the next school day celebration is on March 3^rd!
