A Brief History:
What is Bubble Wrap? National Bubble Wrap Day honors an intriguing invention. In contemporary times, the main function of bubble wrap is to safeguard delicate items during transportation or storage. Additionally, many individuals find pleasure in the act of popping the bubbles contained within the wrap.

Invention: In 1956, two engineers, Marc Chavannes and Alfred Fielding, developed bubble wrap in Hawthorne, New Jersey, by sealing two shower curtains together, which resulted in a series of air bubbles. Initially, they envisioned their invention as a potential wallpaper, but this idea did not lead to successful sales. Consequently, Chavannes and Fielding pivoted their focus towards marketing the product as insulation for greenhouses.
Beginning of Marketing of Bubble Wrap: The product was initially referred to as Air Cap and was manufactured by the Sealed Air Corporation, established in 1960. In 1961, the product transformed into the Bubble Wrap that is widely recognized today, as it provided protection for IBM’s 1401 computer during its shipping process. Sealed Air Corporation subsequently trademarked Bubble Wrap and has been meeting shipping requirements ever since.
Different Sizes of Bubble Wrap: Bubble wrap is available in various thicknesses and bubble dimensions. The sizes of the bubbles can vary from 3/8 inch to 1/14 inch in diameters.
Reuse Bubble Wrap is Smart: If you find yourself with excess bubble wrap from packages that you do not intend to use, consider donating it to a nearby business. Numerous enterprises utilize bubble wrap for shipping their products to customers. By donating your bubble wrap and other packaging materials to small businesses, you contribute to their reuse, thereby preventing these materials from being discarded in landfills.
Celebrated: National Bubble Wrap Day (National Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day) is celebrated on the final Monday of January every year, when in the year 2001, Jim Webster of Spirit-ind95 WVNI radio in Bloomington, Indiana created National Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day.
