Because of the beauty from the eye in the sky. . .I am featuring a .GIF & video of the whole loop of (at its worst magnitude in the Gulf of Mexico) Atlantic Category 5 Hurricane Helene, which started out 1° east of Tampico, Tamaulipas, Mexico at 22°N & 97°W, Hurricane Milton originated as a tropical storm on Saturday, October 5^th, and escalated to hurricane status on Sunday, October 6^th. It reached Category 5 intensity while traversing the Gulf of Mexico from Sunday to Monday, October 7^th, holding the record for the fastest intensification to a Category 5 hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico, transitioning from Category 3 to Category 5 within a few hours. Following an eyewall replacement cycle, Milton briefly weakened to a Category 4 hurricane but subsequently re-intensified back to Category 5. The hurricane exhibited sustained wind speeds ranging from 175 mph to 180 mph, resulting in storm surges of 10 to 15 feet above ground level in the Tampa Bay area. In response to the impending threat, widespread evacuation orders were issued for coastal counties in Florida. Milton made landfall near Siesta Key, Florida, about 5 miles west of Sarasota as a Category 3 hurricane on October 9^th at 8:30 PM EDT and diminished in strength as it progressed across Florida into the Atlantic Ocean, ultimately becoming extratropical on October 10^th. The storm touched and or had cloud-cover over the states of Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia and Delaware. Hurricane Milton is recorded as one of the most devastating hurricanes in the history of west-central Florida. The storm fizzled at 30°N & 77°W over the Atlantic Ocean, as featured all on one loop on .GIPHY.

Official damage report: $85 billion billion (to present), 35 deaths. Milton is the second most costly storm of the season, just under Hurricane Helene which was $87.9 billion (more info to follow in future post). The costliest hurricane to hit the United States, causing $172.5 billion in damage was Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

An unsurmounted failure of the U.S.’s negligent handling of the hurricane season, the National Weather Service:

MILTON, HELENE, WHOLE 2024 SEASON; WEATHER SHOULD BE STUDIED:

There is no excuse for the handling of Hurricanes Milton and Helene. Hurricane Milton became another political controversy, notwithstanding the already volatile situation with Hurricane Helene. The two points of controversy are first with the then Presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris making a needless phone call to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis while he was busy deploying a plan of action to serve the residents and businesses to recover from Hurricane Milton, while Ron DeSantis had already been in touch and received effective assistance from President Joseph Biden and FEMA (lacking communication in the departments). Now it has been received that FEMA has been caught in the frenzy of presenting unfavored treatment for residents/businesses that presented a political Presentient Trump/Vice President Vance sign in from of the location: by skipping houses and/or businesses that had the sign in front of the place. There are also issues other departments other than FEMA, with National Weather Service, and the NOAA/National Hurricane Center. We had issues in Illinois last summer, based on my claim that the tornado siren went off 30 seconds after the derecho storm blew through on July 15, 2024 approximately 9:45 pm (late notification). A complete congressional investigation should be conducted on all operations at FEMA because of their handling of this situation, also Hurricane Helene. A complete congressional investigation should be conducted upon the NWS, based on practices within the department upon implementing safe and effective procedures and bulletin launching. I urge the subject of the negligent handling of the 2024 hurricane season based on: my 5 errors in the season, extra labor hours to track each storm, no matter how large. I was told to complain, but to who–the websites all didn’t work to take a complaint either. Safety should never be bureaucracy! This incompetence should not only be studied, but an amount of extra dollar loss, extra deaths and extra injuries should also be studied. -Jerry Marquardt
