A prayer:
Dear God,
Almighty and eternal God, as Abraham ventured away from his homeland and separated from his kin, You ensured his safety throughout his travels.
We implore You to safeguard these soldiers. Be their unwavering support and their source of strength in combat, their sanctuary in times of hardship. Lead them, O Lord, so that they may return home unharmed. We request this through Christ, our Lord.
Amen.
A Brief History:
Origination: Today serves as the United States Marine Corps’ birthday, marking the founding of the Continental Marines. The origins of the Marine Corps date back to November 10, 1775, when the Continental Congress established the Continental Marines in anticipation of the American Revolution. During this pivotal period, two battalions of Marines actively participated in the struggle for independence, engaging in combat both on land and at sea.

Premise: The United States Marine Corps, a vital component of the United States Armed Forces, is tasked with ensuring power projection from maritime environments. Leveraging the mobility of the United States Navy, the Corps is capable of swiftly deploying combined-arms task forces.
Significance: The Corps was disbanded following the conclusion of the Revolutionary War. Nevertheless, on July 11, 1798, Congress mandated the establishment of the Corps once again. It was designated as the United States Marine Corps (USMC) and was instructed to be prepared for duty under the authority of the Secretary of the Navy.
Other Facts: United States Marine Corps shares resources with other U.S. military branches but maintains its identity in mission, funding, and assets. Despite fewer installations, the Marine Corps is present on various Army, Navy, and Air Force bases. General Alexander Vandegrift once reflected on success in combat during the Pacific drive in World War II. In 1944, Marines celebrated their achievements at Guam, Saipan, and Peleliu. In 2004, 20,000 Marines were deployed to Al Anbar Province, Iraq, and responded to the Pacific tsunami crisis, showcasing their adaptability. Marines continue to evolve to meet the changing operating environment but maintain core values of courage, commitment, loyalty, and adaptability. In 2014, Marines reflected proudly on past accomplishments, confident in their ability to face future challenges with resilience.
Celebrated: The holiday is celebrated every year on the day before Veterans Day, November 10th!

A Few Facts:
I am sharing a few facts, and more, some trivia, some not trivial. . .
Statistics:
In 1921, General John Archer Lejeune, 13th Commandant of the Marine Corps, started the tradition of sending out a reminder of honorable service to all Marine commands on the Corps’ anniversary. This practice has continued, with Marines commemorating the birth of their branch each year by republishing General Lejeune’s reminder. Over time, Marines have added events like balls and banquets to the celebration. The first formal dance occurred in 1923 at Ft. Mifflin Marine Barracks. In 1925, the historic Benjamin Franklin Hotel hosted the inaugural Marine Ball, celebrating the Marine Corps’ 150th birthday. General Lemuel C. Shepherd Jr. introduced more traditions, including the cake cutting ceremony in 1952, where the oldest and youngest Marines present receive the first and second slices, respectively, a practice still followed today.
The Present:
Have you reached out to a Marine? A visit, a call, or a prayer is all that is necessary…
The Future:
We will NEVER, ever forget those who served the United States Marine Corps, in the name of the freedom for which the flag and the Statue of Liberty stands for!
