Interview:

-How easy was it to combine the correlation of the love of God with bitcoin/cryptocurrency?

It wasn’t so much that we set out to combine the correlation of these two; that was a natural evolution of the goal, which was to examine money through a moral and ethical lens.  The base layer of morals and ethics are the sacred scriptures of the world’s religions: the Bible, Torah, Koran.  It is no accident that money is one of the most discussed topics in the Bible; humans struggle with how to use money well.  So, if we look at our current financial system to judge its ethics, we see that the printing money with no hard asset to back it actually steals our time and God-given talents from us, allows governments to wage war, and to punish its citizens and other countries.  It appears that our current money is not ethical or moral.  We then looked at bitcoin to see if it might be a more moral form of money.  Turns out, it holds its value since there are only 21 million that can ever be created, it is decentralized so governments can’t weaponize it.

God Bless Bitcoin shows that it is not only possible for people to have a cryptocurrency wallet, but that bitcoin is actually a benefactor to being able to share with God. How do you think that the everyday Christian or Jewish person will be able to figure out how to be able to use bitcoin or any other type of cryptocurrency for religious purposes?

Because only 21 million bitcoin will ever be created, bitcoin’s most practical use case is as a store of value. Unlike our current financial system that prints money and dilutes our purchasing power, bitcoin provides a savings account that holds its value.  To put it simply, our current financial system makes it difficult for people to take care of themselves and their families; charitable giving is next to impossible.  If people were able to save more money, and the money they earned covered more of their expenses, they would have more money to share with others and do God’s good work.

-How do you think that the everyday Christian or Jewish person will be able to figure out how to be able to use bitcoin and the world of cryptocurrency for the purposes of everyday living situations?

People need to educate themselves about any form of money that they use.  For bitcoin, we advise that people do their homework and understand it is very volatile.  Remember, it’s not a trading vehicle; it’s a place to store long-term value.  A great website to learn more about bitcoin and how it works is hope.com.

-Do you think the everyday person who watches God Bless Bitcoin will be able to figure out the math involved in being able to manage money from within the cryptocurrency wallet, and in the world of digital assets?

There is no difference in the math involved in being able to manage money from within a cryptocurrency wallet and being able to manage money from within a bank account.  So, a digital wallet is no different than an actual wallet or a checking and savings account.

-How do you think that bitcoin will be able to be implemented fully steering clear of all politics?

Because bitcoin is taxed as property in the United States, it is very cumbersome to use as currency.  Instead, people use it to store their value for the future since it can’t be diluted by the money printer.   In other parts of the world where it’s not taxable, it is used as currency and works well.  How the US government decides to treat bitcoin will determine how quickly it becomes an alternative currency here.  For the foreseeable future, it’s great for Americans to think about bitcoin as their savings account, and their dollars as their checking account.  To be clear, bitcoin will not replace the dollar; rather it will be the base layer of our economic system.

-Cryptocurrency Has earned a vague and sometimes indefinite meaning overall. Do you think that God Bless Bitcoin will instill a sense of faith in the world that cryptocurrency will become the easy to use system that it was originally invented to be?

Our film gives a macro view of bitcoin and how it works, but ultimately, the film is a springboard for people to be able learn more about how bitcoin can help them live a life of abundance.   A great website to learn more about bitcoin is hope.com.

-Do you think that God Bless Bitcoin will show how and why members of both the lower and middle classes feel a financial squeeze, despite working hard and leading fiscally responsible lives–and how to turn it around?

Yes, the first third of the movie explains what money printing does to all of us, but why the lower and middle classes are feeling it the most.  We have a very powerful segment in the film where Natalie Brunell, our narrator, speaks about how the printing of money has left Millennials as the first generation that will not be better off than the previous one.  Her specific words are that they feel as if they have been “rug pulled.”  Then, we spend the last two thirds of the film looking at bitcoin through a moral and ethical lens provided by the sacred scriptures.  We show how bitcoin allows people to hold onto their purchasing power, all the while restoring freedom and peace to their lives.

-Do you think that God Bless Bitcoin will be able to assist in preparing the world for the mission of how do we fix our broken money systems?

Our goal was to pique people’s interest and show them the hope that bitcoin offers for our broken money.  We believe that knowledge is power, so our film gives a general explanation of bitcoin and how it works, but ultimately, the film is just the first step in the mission.

-Do you think that the interfaith religious leaders featured in God Bless Bitcoin will properly expose the broken, unjust, and often immoral nature of our current fiat-based monetary system?

Several already are.  Fr. Robert Sirico founded the Acton Institute, a thinktank that aims to educate about the connection that exists between virtue and economics.  Rabbi Daniel Lapin has written a book about sound finance called Thou Shall Prosper and speaks about ethical finance in some of his podcasts.  Rabbi Michael Caras wrote a children’s book called Bitcoin Money:  A Tale of Bitville Discovering Good Money to educate children on an ethical bitcoin economy.

-Do you think that God Bless Bitcoin will expose the connection of our present day monetary system with the military industrial complex and the propagation of war?

Bitcoin is not a solution to conflicts; it actually prevents conflicts from beginning in the first place.  Right now, when governments want to wage war, they simply print money to pay for that war.  Because bitcoin is capped at 21 million, governments couldn’t print money to wage war.  They would have to either spend their bitcoin or borrow money from their citizens by selling war bonds.  If the citizens don’t buy the war bonds, there is no war because there is no money to fund the military industrial complex.

-How do you think that God Bless Bitcoin can provide a suggestion to the ways in which bitcoin would be able to present alternatives to our current fiat-based system that would furnish ways that are more fair, objective, and peaceful?

In the United States, it is the wage-earner who is most affected by the printing of money.  So, I think that the film shows how bitcoin can help alleviate the problems our current system is causing.  It helps younger viewers as they think about their careers and how to preserve the wages they earn; it’s helps retirees and those on fixed incomes because it allows them to evaluate how their current savings are working for them.  On a global scale, we hope it opens the eyes of the unbanked and those excluded from their financial systems; we hope they see that bitcoin can be a payment network for their livelihood, as well as a tool to preserve and protect their savings for future generations
