Today’s Featured Flower Photo of the Day:
Stella de Oro Daylily
Here is today’s featured photo flower presentation. To let 2024 shine bright, I am featuring fine photos of flowers, continuing to honor the brighter side of life again this year. Today’s Flower of the day is the Stella de Oro Daylily.
The Stella de Oro Daylily, or the Hemerocallis ‘Stella de Oro’ are 2-1/2 inch wide beautiful golden-yellow flowers with with a rosy gold throat, that are stunning blooms grace the garden from June all the way until frost arrives. Known as the star of gold, this daylily is incredibly popular among garden enthusiasts. It offers versatility, as it can be used as a border plant, in mass plantings, as a container plant, or as an edger for walkways. For optimal growth, it thrives in areas with full sun to partial shade, and it prefers well-drained soil with medium moisture and plenty of organic matter. This resilient daylily can withstand challenges such as rabbit damage, erosion, and air pollution. To ensure a continuous display of blooms, it’s recommended to deadhead spent flowers on a daily basis. By removing the faded flowers, you encourage the plant to produce more vibrant blooms. Additionally, once the flowers have finished blooming, it’s advisable to remove the scapes. These are the stalks that held the flowers, and removing them helps maintain the plant’s overall appearance. When selecting a planting location, it’s important to avoid areas that are constantly wet, such as under roof overhangs or next to downspouts. These conditions can be detrimental to the health of the daylily. For optimal results, plant Hemerocallis ‘Stella de Oro’ in the spring after the danger of frost has passed, or in the fall about a month before the first frost. This timing ensures that the plant has the best chance to establish itself and thrive in your garden.…
