March! Comes in Like a Lion or a Lamb Day. . .

Today was the first day of March for 2024! Legend states: “If March comes in gentle as a lamb, it goes roaring out like a Lion! But if March roars in like a lion, it goes out gentle as a lamb.” And the story goes. . .

March! Comes in Like a Lion or a Lamb Day. . .

The History:
Origination: As per the Farmers’ Almanac, weather folklore traces back to ancient beliefs in equilibrium. It suggests that if March begins with harsh weather, resembling the mighty roar of a lion, it should conclude with pleasant weather, as gentle as a lamb.

THe Saying Goes. . . If March comes in gentle as a lamb, it goes roaring out like a Lion! But if March roars in like a lion, it goes out gentle as a lamb.”

Any Truth to the Saying?  Fact is, and study of climate will tell you that chances are that it could happen with an average of lower than 50%. With those odds, it is just as easy to have March come roaring in like a lion and go out easily as well like a lion. Or it could come in gentle as a lamb amd also go out gentle as a lamb! Odds are it could be any one of the three, making odds at less than 50%. The variable is differentiated by several factors including actual climate, or also climatic factors such as El Niño, La Niña and ENSO neutral states, plus micro-climatic factors and also sub-micro-climatic factors as a downtown or urban area of a general area having different characteristics than the local suburban and outlying rural areas.

Celebrated: March 1^st each year (and an outcome to be seen on March 31^st to follow).
