A Brief History:
Origination: Tortilla chips are a Los Angeles version of the Mexican version of a tostada, so it is really a “Southwestern” treat. Rebecca Webb Carranza is credited for making tortilla chips popular by cutting triangles and frying the crisps, and selling them at a very economical price of a dime a bag at the El Zarape Tortilla Factory. Carranza received the 1994 Golden Tortilla Award for her contribution to the Mexican food industry.

The Tortilla Chip:  Tortilla chips are a crisp that is made from corn, vegetable oil, salt, and water, and are cut into wedges and fried. Tortillas are typically made with yellow corn, although they also can be made with white, blue, or red corn.

Tortilla Chips Go Well With : Whether with salsa, chile con queso, guacamole, cheese dips, or other dips, it is easy to celebrate National Tortilla Chip Day.

A celebration: Recognized each year across the country, a whole day that encourages tortilla chip lovers to whip up a buffet of favorite toppings and dips.

Celebrated: February 24^th every year!
