Antiques, Vintage, or Retro? I am Confused:
Antiques Ville: An antique is generally an item that is at least one hundred (100) years of age or more. That means that the item needs to be made from the year 1923 or earlier. The only case where it is different is in the case of vehicles, where they become antique on the 25th birthday. When it comes to homes, they are not considered an “antique”, but they are considered to be historic. Landmark is a status that is obtained from a government authority of a home or building or even an object, plaque or statue. I had the opportunity in the 1990’s to live in what is now a landmark, the “Holmes Home & Landmark” in Aurora, Illinois, which was built circa 1868. The home is an Italianate style Victorian house, originally owned by Jane and William Holmes. It had an addition put on the rear after the initial build. I am truly honored to have lived in the mid-19th century gem! Any older home has quite a history to go along with it.
My residence from the years 1994 to 1999 was this lovely landmark, a Victorian called the Holmes House in the great city of Aurora in Illinois!

Vintage is What? Originally the word vintage is simply used to describe a type of item from a bygone era. Vintage in the economical world is an item that an antique dealer considers as an item that is at least 40 years old. So, a vintage item would be an item that is made between the year of 1924 and 1983. There are some people who believe that an item 20 years or older are vintage, but when it comes right down to it, the Antique dealer and eBay rule with the stringent rule of the 40 year or older rules. Most older items that are thought of to be antiques are actually vintage. Vintage is still a very great status. There are some baseball cards from Topps that are worth several thousand dollars per piece. I have owned a vintage Ludwig drum set and am truly honored to have been able to play such a great and vintage item. I have worked with some vintage cameras and darkroom equipment in my life. I truly honor vintage items.
Retro is What? Here is the answer to the misconstruing of what a sort-of-vintage item is. A retro item is considered an item that is made at least 20 years ago, but not over 40 years ago. So all those fax machines, pagers, computers before Windows XP–typically a computer that searches for a phone line to connect, are all retro items. Original cell phones without texting, the last payphones. and other items of the 80’s and 90’s! Values can vary, but never quite make the value of a vintage item.
A celebration: If you have some antiques, vintage items, or even retro items, the items may be valued more than a market value can ever deliver. Let us honor all these items in retrospect.
Celebrated: Retro Day is celebrated every year on February 27th, while Old Stuff Day is celebrated every year on March 2nd! The real celebration however, it to be able to cherish the possession of those items from yesteryears!

Old Stuff & Retro Days
What a stunning house! I’ve never lived in a house at all, that looks like a mansion to me! As for vintage, we have a LOT of vintage in this apartment. A big TV from 1966, Old radios (transistor and otherwise), clocks & watches from the 1940s….utensils and cookware that my grandmother bought in 1920 when she came to America….not to mention ME – vintage 1954!
I love retro stuff
Very interesting!
i feel like i was born in the wrong time because im not a fan of anything modern
Interesting!
thanks for sharing
You can learn a lot about history from looking at old things. You never know what you might find.
My friend used to drag me to garage sales! She was looking for things in those categories. She used to say that you never know what kind of treasures you may find. I have heard that old saying: One person’s garbage is another person’s treasure! That is so true! I do like looking for antiques. I think the house from the 1990 Home Alone movie is a classic and is located in Winnetka, IL I hope I used the right term! I’m not into the retro style. Thanks for clearing up the differences for each term! Now I know I am an antique 🤪
