Today’s Featured Flower Photo of the Day: Giganteum Globemaster Allium

Here is today’s featured photo flower presentation. To let this year shine bright, I am featuring fine photos of flowers, continuing to honor the brighter side of life again this year. Today’s Flower of the day is the Giganteum Globemaster Allium.

The Giganteum Globemaster Allium, or the Allium Aflatunense is part of the Amaryllis family on plants, and is actually in the onion family (Ornamental Onion, or Persian Onion), a great later spring sight with it’s great purple hue, and sometimes referred to as the “Giant Ball of Onion”. The Allium originates is native to Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan in Central Asia. The Allium grows to the size of 24-36 inches tall and has flowers that grow to a diameter of about 4 inches, and consists of clustered flowers that let the wind blow through them rather easily. The Allium prefers the full sun or partial shade, and moist, well-drained, clay, loamy or sandy alkaline soils. For flowering in the spring season, bulbs are best planted in the autumn season before the first frost at about four to six inches deep.
