Today’s Featured Flower Photo of the Day: Thundercloud Flowering Plum Tree

Here is today’s featured photo flower presentation. To let this year shine bright, I am featuring fine photos of flowers, continuing to honor the brighter side of life again this year. Today’s Flower of the day is the Thundercloud Flowering Plum Tree (Bare Root).

The Thundercloud Flowering Plum Tree (Bare Root), or the Prunus cerasifera in the Rosaceae family is a deciduous tree that blossoms in early to mid-spring with highly fragrant flowers that emit a delicious aroma. The Thundercloud has springtime purple foliage adds depth and beauty to any landscape, but can be a messy tree from the moderate amount of sap produced. The Thundercloud produces summer fruits that are edible, but they will not taste like the large plums you’re accustomed to eating–those are produced on a different kind of plum tree. If you enjoy home-canning projects, you can use these fruits to make jam, jelly, or preserves. The Thundercloud grows to the size of 15 to 20 feet tall and grow best when planted in full day long sunshine.
