Origination: It all started in Italy with Antica Pizzeria, the world’s first Pizzeria, opening in Naples, Italy, in the year 1738.

United States Evolution: The United States’ first dab at pizza was thanks to Gennaro Lombardi, the first U.S. Pizzeria opening in 1895 in New York City.

Celebrated: February 9^th every year!

More Recently: Today, pizza is celebrated doing a vast array of activities and ways to enjoy! Whether it is watching a movie, watching a rerun, a sporting event (Super Bowl LVI is this Sunday), a seasonal event or concerto, driving in your car and listening to the radio, or just plain dinnertime!

How Much? Americans consume an average of a whopping 23 pounds of delicious pizza per person every year.

What The U.S. Likes: Pepperoni is the most popular pizza coming in at 36% of all pizzas ordered. There are over 3 billion pizzas sold throughout the United States every year. Add another 1 billion pizzas sold at the store in the freezer section. Did you know that 17% of all restaurants are pizzerias in the United States?
