Dear God,
We express our gratitude for the blessing of our grandparents. You have endowed them with wisdom and experience that enhance our lives. We ask for their ongoing health, happiness, and tranquility. Fortify their bodies, soothe their hearts, and saturate their days with Your love and grace. May they sense their worth and be appreciated for the love they bestow upon us and the guidance they provide. Assist us in honoring and caring for them with patience and compassion, drawing lessons from their example.

A Brief History:
Origination: In 1973, Governor Arch Moore declared the inaugural Grandparents Day in West Virginia. This initiative reached a significant milestone in 1978 when the United States Congress designated the first Sunday after Labor Day as National Grandparents Day. Fast forward to 2004, the National Grandparents Day Council based in Chula Vista, California, introduced a special song for the occasion. “A Song for Grandma and Grandpa,” written by Johnny Prill, was named the official anthem for National Grandparents Day. In recognition of his contribution, the Council honored Prill with the National Songwriter’s Award.

• The day has virtually every state was observing the day, and in 1914, President Woodrow Wilson made it a national holiday.
• The day over time the day was expanded to include others, such as grandmothers and aunts, whose roles portrayed mothering customs.
• The day features its own floral symbol.
• The day boasts its own anthem. The designated song for National Grandparents Day is “A Song for Grandma and Grandpa” by Johnny Prill.
