Today Is National Chicken Wings Day for 2025! Any day, chicken wings are so delicious!! At picnics and get-togethers, at Hooters, home, or for lunch and dinner–flip on a movie or television! Drive through the drive-thru! Just about everything is better with some chicken wings. . .

A Brief History:
Origination: There are three areas of origin when it comes to chicken wings: Scotland, the United States, and the countries of South America. Scottish immigrants are often credited by many historians as the first to bring the dish across the pond. In Western Europe, there has been a tradition of frying meat strips dating back to Roman times. However, during an era of basic kitchen equipment, the most common method of cooking chicken was baking or boiling. The Scots, on the other hand, favored pan-frying it in fat, which eventually led to the modern deep-fat frying method.

Southern Chicken Wings: The Southern United States undeniably holds the most iconic version. What makes people in the Southern United States assert chicken wings as their birthright, or their “state religion” as Damon Lee Fowler expressed in his 1998 book, Chicken Wings: The World’s Best Recipes from Memphis to Milan, from Buffalo to Bangkok? The straightforward explanation is that the early history of chicken wings is somewhat mysterious, and United States Southerners were its most vocal and enthusiastic supporters, contributing to its spread across the United States and eventually, the world.

Various countries around the world have their own versions, such as Vietnam’s Ga Xao, Italy’s pollo fritto, and Austria’s Weiner Backhendl. The cookbooks of Europe are filled with numerous fricassees. The Scottish, who preferred frying chickens over boiling or baking like the English, might have introduced this method when they settled in the South.

A Celebration: The iconic dish of chicken wings from the Southern United States gained worldwide fame in the latter part of the 20th century, largely due to the widespread success of fast-food giants such as KFC and numerous smaller local eateries.

Celebrated: National Chicken Wings Day is celebrated every year on July 29^th!
