The Beginning Years: It is believed that Arizona has a rich ancient history with various indigenous cultures that flourished long before Europeans arrived. Significant groups include the Paleo-Indians, Archaic, Ancestral Puebloan, Hohokam, Mogollon, and Sinagua cultures, each contributing unique agricultural systems, structures, and traditions. Key periods are the Paleo-Indian Period, marked by early human evidence; the Archaic Period, where new technologies emerged; the Ancestral Puebloan culture, famous for cliff dwellings; the Hohokam, known for their irrigation systems; the Mogollon, recognized for pottery; and the Sinagua, noted for their pueblos and cliff dwellings.

More History: The first Europeans in Arizona were Spanish explorers in the mid-1500s. Father Kino set up missions in the late 1600s and 1700s. Arizona was once part of the Spanish Empire, then Mexico, before becoming U. S. territory after the Mexican-American War. During the Civil War, parts of Arizona were briefly controlled by Confederate forces, but in 1863 it became a U. S. Territory. The capital moved several times and settled in Phoenix in 1889. Arizona achieved statehood on February 14, 1912. Its economy has focused on mining, agriculture, and high-tech industries, and it has a history marked by key events like the Bisbee Deportation and the Grand Canyon’s national park status.

Climate of Arizona: Arizona has a climate is known for its varied climate, from hot, dry deserts in the south to cooler mountains in the north. The state experiences large temperature differences and varying rainfall based on location and elevation. In the southern deserts, summer temperatures often exceed 100°F, while higher elevations have milder summers and cold winters, with nighttime temperatures dropping into the 20s during winter. Precipitation ranges from 3 inches in the southwest to 40 inches in the White Mountains. Arizona experiences two rainy seasons: winter (December-March) and summer monsoon, which can bring heavy thundershowers. The average of yearly rainfall is about 12.26 inches. Arizona enjoys high sunshine levels and low humidity, except during the summer monsoon, and high evaporation rates due to heat. Specific cities like Phoenix, Flagstaff, and Yuma display unique climatic characteristics. Arizona has an average 305 days per year of sunshine, making it by far the most sunny state in the whole United States, with approximately 84% of days being sunny statewide. Parts including Yuma see almost over 350 days of sunshine per year.
