A Brief History:
Origination: The origins of trees trace back to the early history of Earth, with the first tree-like organisms emerging approximately 400 million years ago. During the Devonian period, early trees such as Archaeopteris appeared. As time progressed, various tree species evolved, including gymnosperms like ginkgo and pine, which arose around 200 and 150 million years ago, respectively, and angiosperms, or flowering plants, which appeared around 125 million years ago. Additionally, ancient civilizations revered trees, often considering them sacred and integrating them into their religious beliefs and mythologies.

2 Different Types of Trees: There are two main different type of trees:
- Deciduous trees
- Coniferous trees
Deciduous Trees: Deciduous trees are characterized by their broad leaves that undergo color changes throughout the seasons.

They are also considered “hardwoods” in the woodshop, even though there are some hardwoods that are indeed softer than some softwoods. The largest difference and indicator of a deciduous trees is the fact that they reproduce via a seed. Some popular types of deciduous trees are:
- Catalpa
- Elm
- Ginkgo
- Betula nigra
- Birch
- Eastern redbud
- Cottonwood
- Beech
- Japanese Maple
- Maple
- Oak
- Red maple
- Aesculus glabra
- Quaking Aspen
- Hackberry
- Hickory
- Saucer Magnolia
- Ash
Coniferous Trees: Coniferous trees usually do not possess leaves but instead have needles and maintain their green color (sometimes even greener in winter months depending on the tree type) throughout the entire year. Not all conifers are evergreen. A small group of conifers grow and lose their leaves each year,

The largest difference and indicator of a coniferous tree is the fact that they reproduce via a cone. They are also considered “softwoods” in the woodshop, even though there are some softwoods that are indeed harder than some hardwoods. Some popular types of conifers are:
- Pine
- Fir
- Larch
- Spruce
- Thuja
- Bald cypress
- Hemlocks
- Dawn redwood
- Blue spruce
- Eastern White Pine
- Red Pine
