Today’s Featured Flower Photo of the Day:
The Aztec Marigold
Here is today’s featured photo flower presentation. To let 2025 shine bright, I am featuring fine photos of flowers, continuing to honor the brighter side of life again this year. Today’s Flower of the day is the The Aztec Marigold.
The Aztec Marigold, or the Tagetes Erecta, is a tender, flowering plant in the daisy family, known scientifically as Tagetes. It is native to Mexico and Guatemala and thrives in full sun with some afternoon shade. The plant does well in various soil types but prefers moist, well-drained conditions. To grow Aztec Marigold, start seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost and transplant outside after frost. The plants may need support in windy areas, and deadhead spent flowers to prevent stem damage and pinch young stems to encourage bushy growth. The blooms are fragrant and attract butterflies and hummingbirds. Aztec Marigold can be used in containers, borders, and gardens aimed at children or butterflies. Potential issues include diseases like botrytis and pests such as thrips and slugs. Some varieties are resistant to certain diseases…
