The Beginning Years: Washington State has a deep ancient history, with signs of human life going back over 5,000 years ago. Many Native American tribes lived there before Europeans arrived, and their history is shown through archaeological sites like shell middens and rock art. During the Paleoindian period, people first came to the area. Various tribes, such as the Chinook and Nez Perce, inhabited the land. More History: The state of Washington became the 42nd state of the United States on November 11, 1889. Before statehood, it was part of the Oregon and later the Washington Territory. The area was inhabited by Native American tribes before European settlement. European explorers began visiting in the late 1700s. Britain and the U. S. jointly occupied the region from 1818 to 1846. The U. S. established the Oregon Territory in 1848, including present-day Washington. The Washington Territory was formed in 1853.
Climate of Washington: Washington has a climate is known for its varied climate divided by the Cascade Mountains. Western Washington has a Mediterranean climate with mild temperatures, wet winters, and dry summers, while Eastern Washington has a semi-arid climate with hot summers and cold, snowy winters. In Western Washington, summers are warm, rarely above 79°F, and winters are mild, rarely below 45°F. It has frequent rainfall, especially known in cities like Seattle and Olympia. Conversely, Eastern Washington sees hot summers with highs in the upper 80s to mid 90s and cold winters with temperatures from upper 30s to just above 0°F. Cities like Spokane and Yakima are examples. The region’s rain shadow effect results in less precipitation in the east, while the Olympic and Cascade Mountains are cooler. The average annual temperature for the state is around 47.1°F. Priest Rapids Dam is the warmest town at 56°F, and Rainier Paradise RS is the coldest at 39.4°F. Forks gets the most rain at 109.3 inches, while Sunnyside has the least at 8.07 inches. Washington has an extreme differential in sunny days, one of the most in the whole country: approximately 300 sunny days per year on the eastern border near Idaho. Spokane, with its continental climate, sees about 171 sunny days annually, while Seattle has a lower average of 152 days per year. The average is 208, with a 57% total days average being sunny.
