Pope Francis (born Jorge Mario Bergoglio): December 17, 1936 – April 21, 2025
Today April 21, 2025, Pope Francis unfortunately passed away at age 88. Pope Francis was the current leader of the Roman Catholic Church, and will be succeeded through the papal conclave, a procedure in which the College of Cardinals (those under 80 years of age) selects a new Bishop of Rome, commonly referred to as the Pope. This election process usually takes place following the death or resignation of the sitting Pope. Pope Francis ascended to the papacy in 2013 after the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI. He was the 266th Pope and notably the first to come from the Jesuit order, as well as the first Pope from the Americas and the Southern Hemisphere. My condolences to the whole world, the church, Pope Francis’ friends, family and acquaintances. Also bless his services graciously given to the church.
Last Quotations from Pope Francis:
- “In prayer, God keeps calling us, opening our hearts to charity.”
- “Joy springs from a grateful heart.”
- “Rejoice in the Lord always!”
- “God bless America!”
- “If we want life, let us give life.”
- “In the face of unjust and painful situations, faith brings us the light which scatters the darkness.”
- “Jesus keeps knocking on our door in the faces of our brothers and sisters, in the faces of our neighbors, in the faces of those at our side.”
- “God is present in every one of you, in each one of us.”
- “Prayer makes us brothers and sisters.”
- “Forward! Keep moving forward!”
