Which State is NE:

The Beginning Years: It is believed that Nebraska has a rich history that goes back thousands of years, starting with the arrival of Paleo-Indians over 5,000 years ago. These early inhabitants were the first settlers of the Central Plains and left behind tools and remains from hunts of large animals like mammoths and bison. By the 1700s, several Native American tribes lived in Nebraska, including the Omaha, Ioway, Oto-Missouria, Sioux, Cheyenne, Pawnee, and Arapaho. Some tribes, such as the Cheyenne and Lakota Sioux, were nomadic and followed bison herds, while others like the Omaha and Pawnee settled down and farmed. The name “Nebraska” comes from an Oto word meaning “flat water,” referring to the Platte River. During the Late Cretaceous period, much of Nebraska was underwater due to the Western Interior Seaway. This sea was home to many marine creatures. Nebraska is also known for its fossils, including mammoths and horses, found in places like Ashfall Fossil Beds. European contact began in the late 1600s with fur traders and explorers, highlighted by Étienne de Veniard naming the Platte River “Nebraskier” in 1714.

Nebraska’s became a territory as part of the Kansas–Nebraska Act, which was passed by the U.S. Congress on May 30, 1854. The Nebraska Territory settled primarily under the Homestead Act of 1862, during which the state of Nebraska was admitted to the union as the 37th state on March 1, 1867, two years after the American Civil War ended.

Climate of Nebraska: Nebraska has a climate is known for its characterized two major climatic zones. The eastern two-thirds of the state is in a humid continental climate with a “warm-temperate” that exists near the southern plains, similar to that in eastern to southern adjacent states. The western to southwestern portions have a wide variation between the winter and summer temperatures because of the semi-arid climate. Chinook winds tend to warm Nebraska significantly in the winter to early spring months. Average temperatures at Lincoln range in the month of January overnight at 11.5°F. In July, the warmest month, the average day time temperature rises to 89.6°. Nebraska has an average of 223 sunny days per year, with approximately 64% of days being sunny.

More About Nebraska: Throughout the years, Nebraska has earned the titles of being famous for its agriculture, especially corn and beef, which gives it the nickname “Cornhusker State. ” In addition to corn, the state produces soybeans, wheat, and livestock like cattle and hogs. Iconic landmarks include Chimney Rock, the Sandhills, and Scotts Bluff National Monument, which highlights the region’s history and natural beauty. Carhenge is a unique art installation, and Nebraska is a key stop for migrating Sandhill Cranes. Culturally, Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo is notable, and the state hosts the College World Series. The Dust Bowl: The “Dust Bowl” was a dreaded phenomenon that was the largest weather disaster that was directly caused by decades of ill activity man created by lack of the proper knowledge skills to preserve a land’s environment. For decades leading up to the disaster, mankind kept using the disk plow which dug too deep into the soil of the plains and pulverized the dirt and made in featherlight. To make matters worse, mankind kept digging up the grassland to plant for aid to economic depression of both Europe and the United States, with legislation to pay farmers more than the value of the crops. The Dust Bowl also was brought on by natural effects of extended drought and unusually high temperatures. Poor agricultural practices and the resulting wind erosion all contributed to making the Dust Bowl. President Herbert Hoover then finally admitted it was a disaster when the winds blew the dust all the way to Washington D.C. U.S. Congress established the Soil Erosion Service and the Prairie States Forestry Project in 1935. The Dust Bowl effected Kansas and other U.S. States. A great book with the subject of the Dust Bowl is listed here:
