A Brief History:
Origination: National Chocolate Mousse Day celebrates both chocolate and mousse (a French word meaning “foam”), honoring this rich dessert that became popular in France during the 1800s. Chocolate mousse offers a wide range of options, including dark chocolate, milk chocolate, bittersweet varieties, and various combinations.

Mid to Later 20^th Century: A century later, the French innovated a technique for creating mousse. While Savory was the pioneer, it likely did not take long for this method to be adapted for chocolate as well. In the United States, an advertisement in The Brooklyn Daily Eagle from 1887 featured classes on preparing chocolate mousse, taught by a Miss Parloa. In addition, she provided guidance on making potato soup, larded grouse, potato timbale, and corn muffins.

The Consistency: Chocolate mousse and chocolate pudding are not the same. Although both desserts are creamy and delightful, chocolate mousse has a lighter and airier texture compared to chocolate pudding. Sweet mousses are generally prepared using whipped egg whites, whipped cream, or a combination of both, and are infused with flavors such as chocolate, coffee, caramel, puréed fruits, or an assortment of herbs and spices, including mint or vanilla.

Celebrated: National Chocolate Mousse Day is celebrated on April 3^rd every year!
