A Brief History:
Originations: Tamales are traditionally prepared using a dough known as masa. The process involves spreading this dough onto a corn husk or banana leaf, followed by the addition of various fillings. The leaves are then wrapped around the mixture, and the entire package is steamed, resulting in a delicious and aromatic dish. Although tamales are now widely enjoyed as street food in South America and the southern United States, their roots can be traced back to Mesoamerica, dating as far back as over 5,000 years ago.

Savory: Savory tamales are made with a combination of beans, rice, cheese, pork, chicken, turkey, and an assortment of vegetables and spices. Traditionally, these tamales are best enjoyed straight from their steaming package, without the addition of salsa or crema. Nevertheless, there is no objection to adding a touch of hot sauce or guacamole if desired.

Dessert: Dessert tamales cater to all varieties of sweet cravings. Envision delightful combinations of fruity, caramel, and creamy steamed pastries. Typically, these are smaller than the traditional savory tamale, offering a touch of indulgence to conclude a meal.

A celebration: Recognized each year on March 23rd.

A Few Facts:
I am sharing a few facts, and more, some trivia, some not trivial. . .

Mexican Tamales:
A Mexican tamale is a traditional dish made from corn dough (masa) that is spread on a corn husk or banana leaf and filled with various ingredients like meat, cheese, or beans before being steamed. Masa is made from nixtamalized corn. The husk or leaf adds flavor during steaming. Fillings can include meats, salsas, cheese, beans, or fruits. Tamales come in many regional and personal variations with different fillings and flavors.
