A Brief History on French Bread:
Origin, and A Lot of French Bread: Interestingly, French bread has the defining features of its length and texture have been codified by French law over the years. In 1920, legislation was enacted that prohibited bakers from commencing their work before 4 a.m. Those in the bread-making profession understand that the process is highly tactile; the kneading and resting of the dough are as crucial as the ingredients themselves. Faced with the constraints of this law, bakers, well-versed in their craft, adapted by reforming their loaves. The resulting long, slender loaves baked more rapidly and uniformly, making them more convenient for patrons to slice and store.

French Bread Sandwiches: French bread, especially baguettes, is great for sandwiches due to its satisfying crust and soft inside. Baguettes are crisp and airy, making them delicious. Their sturdy nature holds various fillings like cheese, ham, or meats and veggies. French bread sandwiches are a classic and can be made into subs or hoagies. Baguettes are easy to slice for customization. Other types, like ciabatta, can also be used for sandwiches.

French Toast? What a Great Leftover Solution: Leftover bread can be transformed into delightful French toast! French bread, particularly when it is a bit stale or dried, is ideal for this dish because of its robust texture and capacity to absorb custard. Its thick crumb and crunchy crust enable it to soak in the egg mixture without disintegrating. Utilizing day-old bread or drying the slices enhances absorption and minimizes sogginess. Slicing the bread into thick pieces helps preserve its texture. Other varieties, such as ciabatta or sourdough, can also work well. Some recipes incorporate day-old French bread along with ingredients like rum, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla to enhance the flavor.

Celebrated: Happy National French Bread Day is celebrated every year on March 21st!
