Facts:
Origin/Donkey Kong: Mario is an iconic figure from a well-known video game is acknowledged on this day. This character, widely recognized as Mario, made his debut in 1981 in a game titled Donkey Kong, developed by Nintendo.

Metamorposis: Devoted fans were familiar with Mario prior to his career as a plumber. Upon his inception, Donkey Kong depicted Mario as a carpenter referred to as Jumpman. Subsequently, in 1983, Nintendo introduced a new game in which the antagonist Jumpman transformed into an Italian plumber tasked with rescuing princesses.

More History/Mario Brothers: Italian plumbers, Mario and his brother Luigi face numerous obstacles in the games produced by Nintendo. Over the years, gammers help Mario cross several different landscapes all to rescue Princess Toadstool or Princess Peach, depending on which game they play. No matter the kingdom or galaxy, video game fans find the games entertaining and challenging. Many will admit, they find the characters endearing. The storylines provide hours of fun and continue to be a part of the pop culture landscape. 

Popularity: Mario is recognized as one of the most popular video game franchises in history, having achieved sales exceeding 210 million copies.

Events & Trivia: Before adopting the name Mario, the character was originally known as Jumpman. Initially, Mario was portrayed as a carpenter rather than a plumber. It is noteworthy that several Nintendo characters share the same voice actor. The name Wario carries a specific meaning in Japanese. Additionally, the character Boo was inspired by the wife of a Nintendo designer.
