The History:
Origination of Meatballs: Meatballs has a long history, dating back to ancient Rome, Persia, and China. In ancient Rome, the cookbook Apicius featured recipes for meatballs made with peacock, pheasant, and rabbit. Some historians believe the first meatballs originated in Persia, known as kofta, made from leftover ground lamb. In China, variations of meatballs emerged around 200 BC, including “Four Joy Meatballs” from the Qin Dynasty. During the Middle Ages, the poume d’oranges dish was popular. Meatballs appeared in the United States in the mid-1800s, with meatball subs gaining popularity in Italian-American delis. The Swedish meatball is another well-known dish that has evolved over the years. You can also watch this video to learn more about the history of meatballs.
