We Said Goodbye To Virtual Last Year: It is such a blessing to say goodbye to the pandemic, endemic, and now it is time to live! We have learned to live with COVID-19, and our celebration of The season of Mardi Gras should never be compromised.

First Celebration: The first Mardi Gras in the United States took place on March 3, 1699 near New Orleans, Louisiana. They had a small celebration and dubbed their landing spot Point du Mardi Gras.

Founded By: French explorers Pierre Le Moyne d’Iberville and Sieur de Bienville

Why The Date: Fat Tuesday is the largest day of celebration, and the date it happens moves dates year by year. Fat Tuesday ranges any Tuesday between the date of February 3 to March 9. Carnival also varies in length year by year, because Fat Tuesday is always the day before Ash Wednesday.

Based on Ash Wednesday: Ash Wednesday is Fat Tuesday is the largest day of celebration, and the date it happens moves dates year by year. Fat Tuesday ranges any Tuesday between the date of February 3 to March 9. Carnival also varies in length year by year, because Fat Tuesday is always the day before Ash Wednesday.always 46 days before Easter. Easter falls on Sundays starting March 23 all the way to April 25, and the exact date of Easter coincides with the first Sunday after the full moon following the spring equinox.

Population of the Event: During Mardi Gras, approximately 1.5 million visitors take to the streets of New Orleans.

Over Time to a Couple Years Ago: The Mardi Gras became an annual event over the centuries and continued growth nationally and internationally–only taking a one year hiatus due to COVID-19; and another year of part-time events last year. There has been and will continue to be a definite turnaround.

Present: The statistics show Mardi Gras will continue in it’s claim to fame. The event will be over in the next few hours, and those streets will be ready for Ash Wednesday tomorrow.  Hopefully we can all celebrate more and more every year.
